Mustangs Walk for Babies
by posted 05/06/2012

On Sunday, May 6th, several McLean Mustangs participated in the March of Dimes March for Babies.  The event featured a four-mile walk, which began at the Reston Town Center.  Proceeds fund programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies, and the Mustangs raised $600 for the cause.

Mustang walkers included Commissioner Craig Richardson, his son, Reilly, Cheerleading Director Nicolette Coleman-Jacobs, Equipment Manager Randy Jacobs, and their son Aaron, Coach Nikhil Verma, and Mustang player Cooper Keating.  UnitedHealthcare, the lead sponsor of the Fairfax County Youth Football League (and underwriters of last year's practice jerseys), is an active supporter of the March of Dimes, and this event in particular.

God Bless Digges Development & the VFW
by posted 04/18/2012

Those longstanding Mustangs will remember the days when we played our homes games (and practices) at Longfellow Middle School.  The school has undergone renovation recently, and we lost the ability to use the fields.  The school also housed several of our blocking sleds, as well as a large sea container, where we stored blocking dummies, yard markers, and other equipment.

As the middle school completes construction, we received several frantic calls from administrators wanting us to remove the sea container.  This posed two very difficult challenges.  First, how to move it, and second, where to move it.

The first problem was solved with one phone call to Ankle Biter head coach, Thomas Digges, who runs a family business, Digges Development.  He owns a dump truck, driven by his brother Dudley, a flatbed trailer, and a Bobcat.  He came to the rescue this week, and using his Bobcat, pushed the sea container around like a cat playing with string until he had it securely fastened on the flatbed trailer.

The second issue proved more challenging.  We attempted to move it to several locations in town but we were shot down by everyone.  After throwing ourselves at the mercy of the Mustang's longtime friends, the Spring Hill VFW, Ned Clark, Post Commander, agreed to allow us to use their back parking lot as a temporary home until we can find a new location, or we decide to sell the darn thing.

So thank you Thomas and Dudley Digges , and to Ned Clark (pictured below), for your generosity to the McLean Mustangs. You're the best!
